• Ukraine's Ambassador to the UN says Russia planning full-scale invasion

Reports of build-up of Russian tanks and fighters in east Ukraine continue

Ukraine's Ambassador to the United Nations has said via Twitter that UN should be informed that Russia is planning a full scale invasion of Ukraine.

Yuriy Sergeyev wrote, "the latest facts prove it and leave no doubts." This comes after Ukrainian authorities said earlier this week that columns of Russian tanks and trucks carrying weapons and fighters had crossed from Russia into east Ukraine.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini has said that European foreign ministers wil discuss imposing further sanctions on Russia at a meeting in Brussels next week.

On the ground meanwhile, fighting has increased with a September ceasefire looking increasingly flimsy. Heavy shelling on the outskirts of the insurgent-held city of Donetsk has been seen in recent days, with many fearing a return to full-scale fighting.

Ukraine prepares to repel ongoing Russian invasion

Ukrainian government forces are preparing for a possible new offensive by Kremlin-backed insurgents in eastern regions.

Defence Minister Stepan Poltorak told government officials in Kyiv that Russian fighters and Ukrainian separatists had received reinforcements from the Russian Federation, a charge denied by Russian officials.

In Bulgaria, meanwhile, NATO Supreme Commander US General Philip Breedlove again confirmed that columns of Russian military equipment and Russian combat troops had entering Ukraine this week.
